The food was simply amazing! Such a delicious dinner me and my mom had! Everyone is super nice. We had tripe soup, lamb soup. Then we split big lamb Adana with great salad and rice that comes with it, great big portion. For dessert we had the best pistachio baklava we ever had! The ambience was great too. I recommend it to everyone to come try this place!!

Popular spot with reservations tough to book but we were lucky, put our name down walked around and a table in the backyard opened up. Heat lamps kept us warm and it's a cute little garden like atmosphere that's actually quieter than the inside. We had the eggplant dip which came with their crunchy chewy bread and was delicious. We also had the noodle stew and saffron basmati rice which was tasty and full of flavors and hearty beans. Definitely worth a visit for a nice dinner full of flavor

Love it here!!! And I am a chef so picky. It is consistent. Service is great. They gave complimentary tea and kept water glasses full. We ordered the dip sampler which is delicious and the mixed grill. The meats were flavorful and juicy. Will certainly go back.

Just two years ago, Sofra burst onto the Sunnyside scene and became the hood's most celebrated Turkish / Mediterranean option in a handful of months. It was hot on all the food sites and became a favorite amongst Turks, which is saying something in the most concentrated community in the borough. Then something changed. The prices crept up a tad and the portions became smaller, deliveries slowed down significantly, the presentation of the food became sloppier, and service mishaps were happening more than ever. My building's super, who aside from being Turkish himself, was once a staunch supporter and was suddenly telling me to go somewhere else. From a star rating's perspective, I'm giving a 4 because my collective experiences as a whole have been wonderful, even if the recent output has more like 2 or 3 stars at best. I think it goes without saying that I've eaten here a lot. So much so that I've probably covered the entire menu several times over. There are some standouts that I think they do well, which include: * Most of their kebabs, but especially the lamb adana / doner. The use of their spices and the char grilled bits are especially nice with the fluffy rice pilaf and tomato + pepper sides. I would prefer getting a mixed kebab with chicken just to even things out. * Their fresh homemade bread. They include a ton of it with any takeout / delivery order and when hot it's good for dipping in soup, for their cold appetizer spreads, and even just to be eaten on its own. * Calfs liver and chicken thighs (i.e. tavuk pizzola). Yes, together. These may not be the most popular menu items, but it's a local dish that much of the community tends to rave about. I have to agree since each time I've had it, it's been flavorful and a little different than the other places in the hood. There were a number of other things I really liked that I've begun enjoying less. Either they've become bland over time or have lost a bit of the luster from the initial output. They include almost all of their cheese bread pide combos, the ribeye steak, falafel, fried calamari, and all of the seafood options (branzino, grilled salmon, shrimp). I'm somewhat indifferent with the cacik, baba ghanoush, labneh, and tabbouleh, which are good overall but not outstanding enough to want / need on their own. I would personally opt for takeout over their incredibly slow delivery, but lately I've been seeing either missing items or snafus like receiving the wrong bag entirely. I've noted this to the lady taking orders, but the phones are ringing off the hook so hard that it's hard to keep her on the phone or get her attention in person. I understand these times call for less staff and more work (highly likely with all establishments), but my orders are usually in the $40-60 range which should merit a little bit of attention to getting the order right. Ultimately, I think they still have a lot to offer. Barring food and service miscues, rising prices, and some recent shoddy execution, I'm really pulling for a resurgence to what got them popular in the first place. It's easy to take for granted the Turkish options in a hood with so many of them, so I do hope that Sofra gets their mojo back.
